Balotelli, 30, is still a free agent after months of rumours linking him to sides across the world.
In search of a number 9, Saint-Etienne tried their luck with Balotelli and were willing to pay him a monthly salary of €100,000 plus bonuses.
ASSE made a strong pitch but Balotelli’s agent Mino Raiola ‘politely declined’ the offer.
The Italian agent said it was not a financial decision but because Mario’s head ‘wasn’t in football’ at that time.
“In a few weeks…”
Balotelli’s future could finally be decided in the next few weeks after comments made by the former Man City striker.
During a conversation with his brother Enock, who is currently taking part in Grande Fratello VIP, the Italian version of Big Brother, Balotelli was asked about his future.
He responded: “I still don’t play, in a few weeks I’ll sign, don’t worry.”
Balotelli has been without a club since leaving boyhood side Brescia following their relegation from Serie A.
A turbulent career has seen Balotelli play for the likes of Inter, AC Milan, Manchester City, Liverpool and Marseille.
In 36 caps for Italy, the Palermo-born forward has an impressive return of 14 goals.
