Leipzig will pay an initial €17m for Gvardiol with a potential €2m in future add-ons. Zagreb will also have a sell-on clause included in the deal.
BILD claims that Leeds offered more (€22m plus a 20% sell-on clause), but good relations between Dinamo and RB made the deal possible.
Leipzig signed Dani Olmo from the Croatian side last winter for €20.5m and Gvardiol will follow the same path.
But Gvardiol will not make the jump to Germany until 2021. A transfer is not likely before next summer when Dayot Upamecano is expected to be sold.
Gvardiol, a centre-back, would then be the chosen successor to Upamecano in the Leipzig defence.
Leipzig have confirmed the signing of Gvardiol from Dinamo Zagreb. He will remain with Zagreb until the end of the season
Gvardiol has signed a six-year deal with the German club.
