“I doubt very much that Kounde has reached an agreement with City, because he has a contract with Sevilla,” Monchi said on Monday.
“It’s true that in the last few days we’ve received interest from a club in Kounde. That club has transmitted an offer to us that has been considered by management and rejected.
“If they came back [for Kounde], we would listen to them again and respond to them again.
“Knowing Kounde, he is surely thinking more about Lewandowski, Muller, Sane or Gnabry than other things.”
Monchi was referring to Thursday’s UEFA Super Cup which sees Sevilla take on Bayern Munich.
City’s pursuit of Kounde is still ongoing and could result in an improved offer being made soon.
The club’s main target, Kalidou Koulibaly, is becoming a more distant possibility due to Napoli’s demands.
Atletico Madrid star Jose Gimenez is also on Pep Guardiola’s radar, but a deal for him would be expensive and difficult.
That has led City to 21-year-old Kounde, one of the most highly-rated young defenders in Europe.
Signed a year ago from Bordeaux for €25m, Kounde had a sensational first season with Sevilla.
