The Colombian was left out of Cologne’s latest lineup and the club confirmed transfer talks were ongoing.
Those talks were with Hertha, who are in the ‘home stretch’ of a deal to sign Cordoba for around €15m.
Under normal circumstances, Hertha would have had to pay more, but Cordoba is in the final year of his contract.
The Berlin side were keen on 27-year-old Cordoba in 2017 when he left Mainz for Cologne for €17m.
Hertha will upgrade their striking department with the addition of the dynamic and robust Cordoba.
Last season, he scored 12 goals in 26 Bundesliga appearances, including two against none of than Hertha in February.
Hertha want to strengthen, not weaken their squad, and have the financial backing of investor Lars Windhorst.
Following their shock 5-4 defeat to 2. Bundesliga side Braunschweig in the DFB-Pokai yesterday, Hertha may target a defender after Cordoba arrives.
