The 21-year-old, who can also play as a forward, is one of Benfica’s most promising homegrown talents.
On Friday he scored one of the four goals in Portugal under-21s’ 4-0 win over Cyprus U21s.
Despite renewing his contract until 2024 in January, Jota is not currently part of Jorge Jesus’ plans at Benfica.
As a result, the Lisbon club want to give him minutes elsewhere, with Valencia ‘very close’ to signing him.
Jota welcomes this development as he does not want his growth to stagnate by having limited game time.
Although he made 19 appearances in Liga NOS last season, most of them were brief and his time on the pitch totalled just 171 minutes.
Record reports that Valencia could be given the option to buy Jota at the end of his loan.
