Atalanta will pay a €2m loan fee, with a further €2m to follow in bonuses if certain objectives are met.
At the end of Romero’s loan spell in the summer of 2022, Atalanta will have the option to buy him for €16m.
The deal could be worth a total of €20m if all objectives are met and Atalanta choose to buy Romero.
Romero arrived in Serie A two years ago from Belgrano in Argentina and has impressed in Italy’s top flight.
