Mooy, 29, moved to Brighton on loan from Huddersfield last summer before the deal was made permanent in January.
But after one year on the south coast, he is off to the Far East, joining Vítor Pereira’s Shanghai SIPG for an undisclosed fee.
Mooy will play alongside well-known Brazilian players Hulk (ex-Porto) and Oscar (ex-Chelsea) at his new club.
The Socceroo was brought to England by Manchester City in 2016 and was immediately loaned to Huddersfield.
Huddersfield then broke their club record transfer fee to buy Mooy, but their relegation led to his switch to Brighton.
