Real Betis sign Brighton right-back Martin Montoya

Real Betis have made Brighton right-back Martin Montoya their first signing of the summer.

Montoya, 29, returns to Spain where he played for Barcelona and Valencia before moving to England in 2018.

He has signed a four-year deal with Manuel Pellegrini’s Betis, a club he enjoyed a loan spell at in 2016.

Betis and Brighton have chosen not to disclose the fee, but it is believed to be around €1m.

Montoya made 27 Premier League appearances in his final season with Brighton.

He will reunite with Marc Bartra at Betis after the two rose through the ranks of Barcelona together.
