Brighton outbid Benfica for Darwin Nunez with €18m offer

Brighton have offered €18m plus bonuses for Almeria forward Darwin Nunez, outbidding Portuguese giants Benfica.

According to A BOLA, both clubs submitted bids on the same day (Monday) with Benfica’s being €15m plus bonuses.

The Spanish second division side turned down Benfica’s offer, though there is no mention of how they responded to Brighton’s.

Other reports have claimed that Southampton and Wolfsburg made €12m bids for 21-year-old Nunez.

It could spell the end of Benfica’s pursuit of the Uruguayan super-talent, with the club not willing to pay more than €15m.

They value Nunez around the same as Luca Waldschmidt, who they signed from Freiburg for €15m.

Nunez is attracting huge interest after scoring 16 goals in 30 appearances for Almeria last season.

The Spanish club rate their young forward at €20m and have him under contract until 2024.
