MD: Philippe Coutinho to stay at Barcelona next season

One day after becoming a European champion with Bayern Munich, Philippe Coutinho has another reason to celebrate today.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the 28-year-old has been told by Ronald Koeman that he will play at Barcelona next season.

Bayern decided not to use their option to buy Coutinho and his future looked to be in England.

However, the arrival of Koeman has changed things, with the Dutch tactician valuing Coutinho.

Koeman called Coutinho this morning to congratulate him on his Champions League success and tell him that he is in Barcelona’s plans for next season.

Coutinho will now fly to Brazil for a vacation before returning to Barcelona for preseason, possibly next Monday.

He has a ‘bitter taste’ from his loan exit from last summer and wants to vindicate himself.

Coutinho joined Barcelona from Liverpool in a deal worth up to €160m, but hasn’t lived up to expecations.

However, it’s clear that he still has much to offer and will be part of Ronald Koeman’s new-look Barca side next season.
