Jose Callejon closes in on Spanish return with Villarreal

Villarreal are making progress on a deal for Jose Callejon after he left Napoli, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.

Callejon, 33, enjoyed seven good seasons at Napoli before leaving as a free agent this summer.

Several La Liga clubs have been linked with taking Callejon back to Spain, but Villarreal are the closest.

Di Marzio points out that while nothing is signed yet, talks are ‘proceeding positively’.

Callejon joined Napoli from Real Madrid for €10m in 2013 and became a fan favourite with 20 goals in his first season.

He left Napoli with a record of 82 goals and 78 assists in 349 appearances.
