Silva, who played his last game for Manchester City in their Champions League defeat to Lyon, returns to Spain after a decade in England.
Lazio are reportedly ‘furious’ over this development as they were sure that 34-year-old Silva was Rome-bound.
The deal comes out of nowhere with Sociedad not even linked with the Spain legend in recent weeks.
Silva has signed a deal until 2022 with La Real and will inherit the number 21 shirt vacated by Martin Odegaard.
The move comes hours after he posted a farewell letter to Man City fans on social media.
