Bakayoko, 25, is still a Chelsea player but not in the plans of boss Frank Lampard.
And after an indifferent return to Monaco on loan, Bakayoko wants to rejoin another former loan club Milan.
The French midfielder enjoyed some of his best form while at the San Siro in the 2018-19 season.
Milan did not take up their option to buy Bakayoko for €35m, leading to his Monaco loan.
Bakayoko was on Milan’s radar again several months ago but faded as they considered other options.
Now he is definitely in their thoughts again, so much so that he has verbally agreed personal terms with them.
Bakayoko earns around €6m-per-season at Chelsea, but is willing to halve that to €3m to join Milan.
The one-time French international probably feels that at 25, his career is going nowhere, and believes Milan would be the best place for him.
Chelsea and Milan must agree
Now comes the hard part – striking an agreement with Chelsea, who paid €40m for Bakayoko three years ago.
Bakayoko is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2022 and the Blues would want a decent fee for him.
Chelsea would expect around €20m to sell Bakayoko, too much for Milan who could start talking at €15m.
The alternative solution would be for Bakayoko to join Milan on loan with an obligation to buy him.
Milan paid €5m for Bakayoko when they loaned him last time and a similar deal could be negotiated.
