Official: Nathan Ake completes €45m move to Man City

Manchester City have continued their summer recruitment by signing Nathan Ake from Bournemouth for £41m (€45m).

Bournemouth accepted City’s bid for the Dutch international last Thursday and he today completed a medical before signing a five-year deal.

25-year-old Ake will strengthen a City defence that faltered at times last season when Aymeric Laporte was injured.

The former Chelsea man has been a standout player for Bournemouth since his club-record move in 2017.

Ake spoke highly of his new club and coach after joining the Citizens.

“City have been the best side in England over the course of the last decade,” said Ake.

“Coming here is a dream for me. This is a top side full of world-class players. Everywhere you look in this squad there are big names with international pedigree.

“Pep is a manager admired across the world – what he’s done in the game speaks for itself. The success he’s had is unbelievable and the style of football he plays really appeals to me.

“I know I’m going to have to work hard to get into the side, but that’s what I’m here to do. I’ll do whatever I can to make an impact and help the team win silverware.”

Ake is City’s second signing in as many days after they landed Valencia winger Ferran Torres for an initial €23m on Tuesday.

Several more new faces are expected at the Etihad Stadium as Guardiola looks to refresh his squad.
