Schwolow was reportedly close to joining another Bundesliga side, Schalke, with a personal agreement said to be in place.
Ajax and Benfica also had a concrete interest in Schwolow, one of the most reliable shot-stoppers in Germany.
“The talks with Bruno Labbadia and Michael Preetz were completely clear and fair from the beginning,” said Schwolow. “I could really identify with their ideas and with the role that I will play here.
“Hertha has great tradition and I would like to be a part of the foundations upon which this club can build a positive future.”
Zeefuik, a player also considered by Southampton to replace Cedric Soares, has been a priority target for Hertha.
The former Dutch youth international went public with his wish to join Hertha after Groningen played hardball over a transfer fee.
However, Funke journalist Yannick Höppner said on Tuesday afternoon that the clubs have finally reached an agreement for 22-year-old Zeefuik.
