Dayot Upamecano extends RB Leipzig contract to 2023

RB Leipzig have announced a new contract for Dayot Upamecano that will keep him at the club until 2023.

Upamecano, 21, was entering the final year of his previous deal with Arsenal heavily linked.

But Leipzig have convinced him to prolong his Bundesliga adventure with a new two-year extension.

The highly-rated French defender has established himself as a regular since arriving from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2017.

Upamecano has made 111 competitive appearances for Die Roten Bullen and is regarded as one of Europe’s best young defenders.

According to BILD, his new contract includes a €50m release clause.

The reasonable clause could lead to a similar situation to Timo Werner, who renewed his deal last summer then joined Chelsea a year later.
