Man City youngster Eric Garcia, formerly of La Masia, is still the chosen one – but there are obstacles.
Garcia, 19, has overtaken John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi in Pep Guardiola’s thinking, and the Citizens are pushing him to sign a new contract.
His current deal runs until 2021 and Barcelona reportedly have Garcia’s ‘OK’, but must reach an agreement with City.
Barca do not believe City will hold on to Garcia if he refuses to extend his contract and hope that in the next few weeks progress can be made.
As for Pau Torres, Barcelona had an interest in him but Villarreal’s €30m-plus asking price put them off.
Torres’ camp held talks with Barcelona in January, but a move to the Premier League seems most likely now.
