Official: Ajax defender Joel Veltman joins Brighton

Joel Veltman is leaving Ajax after eighteen years to join Brighton, the two clubs have announced.

Veltman, 28, has attracted interest from teams in France and Italy, but prefers the Premier League.

And he has opted for Brighton, who fended off interest from two other English clubs for the centre-back.

According to VI, the versatile defender will be used as a right-back by Brighton or in a three-man defence.

He has signed a three-year contract with the option of a fourth, and Brighton have paid around €1m.

Veltman has only ever played for Ajax until now, making 246 appearances after graduating from their youth setup.
