Benfica relaunch talks for free agent Edinson Cavani

After talks broke down last week, Benfica are making a renewed effort to sign Edinson Cavani, according to Record.

It had appeared that Cavani was no longer an option for Jorge Jesus’ side due to his wage demands.

But new reports state that negotiations ‘have moved forward’ after the two parties reestablished contact.

The 33-year-old is a free agent after leaving PSG, but is still an expensive proposition for interested clubs.

Benfica will continue to ask Cavani to lower his demands, but it remains to be seen if he will.

The Lisbon club have an ambitious project with the returning Jorge Jesus at the helm.

AC Milan attacking midfielder Alen Halilovic is in talks to join the club, while three Flamengo stars are also on Jesus’ radar.
