Southampton eye Weston McKennie to replace Hojbjerg

Southampton are the latest club interested in Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie, according to Kicker.

USA international McKennie, 21, has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs recently, including champions Liverpool.

In Germany, Hertha are also keen on McKennie after a good season for the Royal Blues, though he prefers a move to England.

The Saints will need a replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is destined to join Everton or Spurs.

Ralph Hasenhuttl sees McKennie as an ideal successor for Hojbjerg, which could lead to Southampton making a bid.

McKennie is under contract at cash-strapped Schalke until 2024 has a market value of around €25m.
