Lucas Alario wants Bayer exit to boost World Cup hopes

Lucas Alario wants to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer to boost his chances of playing at the 2022 World Cup, Kicker reports.

Alario, 27, made 29 appearances this term for Bayer across the Bundesliga and Champions League – but only 13 starts.

He is planning talks with Leverkusen officials and will ask for a move for one important reason.

The Argentine international wants to go to next year’s World Cup in Qatar, but needs minutes to have any hope.

However, it will not be easy during the Coronavirus crisis to find a club willing to make a satisfying offer for Leverkusen.

Bayern paid €19m to sign Alario from River Plate in 2017 and would expect a good transfer fee for him.

In January, his agent said clubs from England, Spain and Italy had made contact about the forward.

Alario has scored 37 goals and delivered 12 assists in 97 appearances for Leverkusen over the last three years.

In his seven caps for Argentina, he has found the net three times.
