Touré, 37, is searching for a new club having played most recently for Chinese club Qingdao Huanghai.
Speaking to Ouest France, Brest’s sporting director Grégory Lorenzi revealed Touré had been offered to the club – and not just him.
“I was offered Yaya Touré,” said Lorenzi. “Two years ago, it was Michael Essien. I recently received a message telling me to go for Frank Ribery.”
Predictably none of those players have wound up at Les Pirates, who run on a modest budget.
Lorenzi added: “I receive letters, emails recommending unrealizable players to me. But it starts from a good feeling, they want good players at Brest.
“I think I’m going to set up an email address that will serve as an idea box.”
