Gotze, 28, recently ended his second spell at BVB after they decided not to renew his contract.
Speaking on Sky Sport in Germany, transfer expert Marc Behrenbeck explained the situation.
“We can report that the interest of Sevilla has increased again,” said Behrenbeck. “There have been exchanges and inquiries.
“Sevilla will play in the Champions League next season and is therefore very interesting for Gotze.
“The only ‘ten’ in their squad is Franco Vazquez, but he is already 31-years-old. That would be a perfect option for Gotze.
“Talks are not yet advanced, but there is a basic interest from Sevilla.”
Gotze has never played his club football outside of Germany, appearing only for Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.
However, if talks progress the playmaker could soon embark on a Spanish adventure.
