Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl has attempted to close the topic of Zakaria, 23, leaving, stating that he will be at the club next season.
But Man City’s positive CAS outcome, which saw their Champions League ban overturned, could change things.
According to RP, City had ‘intensive talks’ with Zakaria and his management prior to UEFA’s decision to ban City.
Pep Guardiola and City’s sporting director Txiki Begiristain have long been fans of the Swiss midfielder.
They have been following Zakaria’s development for years and now want to bring him to the Premier League.
Begiristain has been City’s sporting director since 2012 and tried to sign Zakaria for City before he joined Gladbach.
Ready for City
At the time a move to City was deemed too soon for Zakaria, but now might be the right time.
Zakaria has developed into a high-level player and has a dynamic style none of City’s impressive cast of midfielders have.
Zakaria made 23 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, scoring two and assisting two goals.
He has won 28 caps for Switzerland since his debut in 2016 with a return of three goals.
