The 21-year-old superstar of French football is out of contract in June 2022 and next summer will have just one year left on his deal.
And Real Madrid are counting on Mbappé to endure the pressure PSG put on him to sign a new deal.
The Spanish giants have made Mbappé a priority for 2021 and know they will be in a strong position next year if he does not renew.
PSG would have to sell Mbappé next July or August, or risk him signing a pre-contract with a new club in January 2022.
Mbappé joined PSG from Monaco for €145m plus €35m in add-ons, and is not a player they would want to lose for free.
But the Parisians are very tough negotiators and would not lose Mbappé without a fight.
Madrid know that time will work in their favour, although everything would change if Mbappé signs a new contract.
Mbappé’s dream is to play for Madrid, a club he has supported since childhood. And a year from now, we will know if that dream will become a reality.
