Hellas Verona are considering an ambitious attempt to sign free agent Mario Mandzukic, according to Tuttosport.
Mandzukic, 34, left Qatar Stars League club Al-Duhail at the weekend after just seven months in the Gulf.
The Croatian is well respected in Italy following four successful seasons at Juventus prior to his Qatar move.
And Verona are thinking about an attempt to convince Mandzukic to return to Serie A.
Verona are coached by Mandzukic’s countryman Ivan Juric and that could help them persuade him.
The Gialloblu have money to spend from selling Amir Rrahmani (€14m) to Napoli and Sofyan Amrabat (€20m) to Fiorentina.
That is before the likely farewell of Marash Kumbulla, who has the top Serie A clubs chasing him with Lazio in the lead.
Additionally, Verona are fighting for a place in the Europa League and achieving qualification could help them get Mandzukic.
Newly-promoted Benevento are also rumoured to want Mandzukic after signing another veteran striker, Loic Remy.
