The 25-year-old Iranian international has been a major disappointment since his club-record €25m move to Brighton in 2018.
After 19 appearances for the Seagulls in his debut campaign, Jahanbakhsh has made just three league starts this season.
Jahanbakhsh was not even in Graham Potter’s matchday squads for Brighton’s last two games against Arsenal and Leicester.
But Dutch giants Ajax could come to his rescue after signaling an interest in the player.
Sporting director Marc Overmars has sent out feelers but no official bid has been made yet.
Ajax are searching for a lively forward player for next season and Jahanbakhsh has proven himself in the Eredivisie.
Before his switch to Brighton, Jahanbakhsh was a star in the Dutch league with AZ, scoring 21 goals in his final season there.
Ajax know his value has fallen from the €25m that Brighton paid two years ago.
And since 2018, when Ajax wanted Jahanbakhsh, they have increased their wage ceiling and can now pay higher salaries.
