And Botafogo want the Ivorian to play alongside Japanese superstar Keisuke Honda, another import from Europe.
The club’s executive committee have sent an offer to Kalou, who is out of contract with Hertha this month.
Talks are being mediated by Marcos Leite, the businessman who helped Botafogo sign Honda from Vitesse in January.
Leite was also at the center of negotiations to sign Man City legend Yaya Touré, which did not work out.
Botafogo’s plan is to count on Kalou for the Brazilian league season, which may start in August.
The contract that has been drafted for Kalou is for a year and a half, running until December 2021.
Kalou’s wife is Brazilian, which could help convince him to join Botafogo after 17 years in Europe.
He has received other offers from Europe and has yet to make a final decision on his future.
Throughout his career, Kalou has played for Feyenoord, Chelsea, Lille and Hertha. He has also won 97 caps for Ivory Coast, scoring 28 goals.
The veteran was suspended by Hertha last season for breaking social distancing rules on a Facebook Live video.
After those events, Kalou’s six-year stay with the German club appears to be coming to an end on June 30.
