The 26-year-old Poland international looks set to leave Napoli this summer having not signed a contract extension.
Atletico have also been making inroads towards signing former Ajax striker Milik.
Milik’s agent, David Pantak, visited Napoli’s offices yesterday and spoke to Rino Gattuso and Cristiano Giuntoli.
Head coach Gattuso reiterated his faith in Milik, who has scored 47 goals in 112 appearances for Napoli.
But Giuntoli, Napoli’s sporting director, made it clear that if Milik does not renew his contract, he will be sold.
The video conference
According to AS, a video conference then took place with Milik, his agent and Atletico Madrid sporting director Andrea Berta.
Berta proposed a €5m-per-season salary to Milik, which would double what he is earning in the south of Italy.
Personal terms would not be an obstacle with those type of figures, but dealing with Napoli is another issue.
The club’s owner Aurelio De Laurentiis is a very tough negotiator and wants between €40m and €50m.
One player who Atletico might have put on the table, Diego Costa, is not of interest to De Laurentiis.
If Milik does leave Napoli, the club have younger players on their list of replacements.
