Official: Maarten Stekelenburg to leave Everton for Ajax

Ajax and Everton have announced that veteran goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg will join the Dutch giants at the end of the season.

The 37-year-old has penned a short-term deal with Everton that will allow him to see out the season at Goodison.

He will then return to Ajax where he starred from 2001 until 2011 before joining Roma.

Stekelenburg joined Everton from Fulham in 2016 and has since made 26 first-team appearances for the Toffees.

In his previous spell at Ajax, Stekelenburg helped them to two Eredivisie titles and three KNVB Cup wins.

The well-traveled goalkeeper has won 58 caps for the Netherlands, the last coming in 2016.
