Mertens’ new deal will keep him in Naples until 2022, but there is an option for an extra year on top of that.
Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis announced the extension on Twitter, saying: “Pleased to be together for a long time to come – long live Dries!”

Mertens, who has become a legend at Napoli after seven seasons and 122 goals, also took to social media.
In an emotional video, the Belgian forward said:
“Napoli, I actually still can’t believe it. From the first day I arrived, you embraced me. You taught me so many wonderful things and introduced me to so many beautiful people. You were ‘home’ for me and my family straight away.”
