19-year-old Almada is one of Argentina’s finest prospects and has won praise from the likes of Riquelme, Redondo and Heinze
Velez sporting director Pablo Cavallero has now confirmed to Olé that Barcelona have asked him about Almada.
“The technical secretary of Barcelona asked us about Almada,” Cavallero confirmed.
He added: “He still has to mature, but if an irresistible offer arrives for the player and club, we will surely value it.”
Barcelona’s approach was not an offer but an investigation to know the possible conditions of a transfer.
However, as Olé points out, it is only a matter of time before Almada makes the jump to the ‘old continent’.
Almada has an evolving release clause, which was €19m until January 31, 2020. It is now €22m until August 21, 2020. And finally, it will become €25m until the end of his contract (mid-2023) if no one buys him before that date.
The teenager made 22 top-flight appearances for Velez this season, scoring four goals and assisting one.
