And their chances of signing the 22-year-old have been boosted by Junior Firpo‘s openness to being involved.
Junior arrived at Barcelona from Betis last year with the aim of trying to generate competition for Jordi Alba.
But neither Ernesto Valverde or Quique Setién have been impressed by the 23-year-old and Barca have put him up for sale.
According to Diario SPORT, Junior has opened the door to a move by agreeing to negotiate with the Italian side.
An agreement won’t be easy, especially as the left-back would like a second chance at Camp Nou. He will also want sporting guarantees from the Nerazzurri.
Barcelona rate Junior at over €30m, but Inter believe he is worth less due to his low standing in the Barca squad.
The Catalan club have also authorised agent Jorge Mendes to negotiate with Inter for Nelson Semedo.
Semedo’s value is much higher than Junior’s, but the wing-back would prefer a Premier League move.
Inter coach Antonio Conte admires Semedo, and club sources say him moving to Milan has not been ruled out.
As for Junior, if he fails to reach an agreement to join Inter, Barcelona will look at other options.
If he is ruled out of the Lautaro deal, Barca will use Junior to try and get a player in a straight swap deal.
A number of right-backs have been linked with Barcelona in recent days, including Manchester City’s Angelino.
The Spaniard has impressed on loan at RB Leipzig, but they want a discount from City on their option to buy.
Pervis Estupiñan (Watford), Nicolas Tagliafico (Ajax), Raphael Guerreiro (Borussia Dortmund) and Layvin Kurzawa (PSG) are also under consideration.
