The 20-year-old is the hottest property in German football right now after his stunning performances for Bayer.
Havertz has scored 11 goals in the Bundesliga and delivered five assists this term. In the Europa League he netted three goals in three games.
The German international is on the radar of every top European club, but Man United could be a step ahead.
According to Sky Sport, United have ‘been working hard’ on Havertz for the past few months.
United have made it clear to the young attacking midfielder that they would like to build a team around him.
The Red Devils view Havertz as the type of signing who could put them back in contention for top trophies.
And crucially, Sky Sport states that Old Trafford is ‘definitely an option’ for Havertz himself.
Bayern, Real and Liverpool also in the race
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will face stiff competition for wunderkind Havertz.
Havertz’s next club is far from certain despite Manchester United’s great efforts to sign him. However, he is keen to leave Bayer this summer.
The German club insist on a transfer fee in excess of €100m for Havertz, who is expected to become one of the world’s best players.
According to Sky, no club is likely to pay this type of sum for the youngster, despite his incredible talent.
A structured transfer fee is more likely – eg. €80m plus €20m in future bonuses.
The current plan is to end the season and then negotiate more specifically to see which clubs go ‘all in’ for Germany’s new superstar Kai Havertz.
