And according to BILD, Chelsea are now in talks about paying Werner’s release clause of ‘just under’ €60m and taking him to Stamford Bridge.
The German publication states Werner will ‘probably’ join Chelsea, despite his previous wish to go to Liverpool.
Liverpool could still come in with an offer, but as it stands Frank Lampard’s Chelsea are closest to signing Werner.
Werner would sign a contract with Chelsea until 2025 and earn over €10m-per-season.
The free-scoring German has struck 25 goals in 28 Bundesliga starts this season, making him one of Europe’s hottest properties.
