Bennacer’s release clause means the Citizens could bypass negotiations with Milan and pay the €50m.
The report goes on to state that City could make an offer ‘as soon as possible’.
Pep Guardiola is a big fan of former Arsenal player Bennacer and has ‘personally called him’ to explain City’s project.
Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in Bennacer but have shown no signs of following up on it.
Algeria international Bennacer wants guarantees on playing time if he is to leave Milan.
Bennacer joined Milan from Empoli for €16m in August 2019 and has been a big success at the San Siro.
With Guardiola’s City serious and PSG lurking, the Italian club may face a challenge to hold on to Bennacer.
