The Portuguese icon could have been wearing the red and black of Milan if former owner Li Yonghong hadn’t stepped in.
In an interview with SportItalia, Mirabelli admitted that the deal wasn’t financially feasible, so Yonghong pulled the plug.
“It was something we talked about with Jorge Mendes,” Mirabelli said.
“We knew there could be problems with Real Madrid and Ronaldo. We did everything, but then the Chinese owners blocked the deal because it was not sustainable.
“With the current owners CR7 would have been a Milan player.”
Mirabelli also admitted Milan had tried to bring in Antonio Conte as head coach.
Former Chelsea boss Conte now leads rivals Inter and has made them a more competitive force.
In another world, Conte and Ronaldo could have been working together at Milan instead of at Inter and Juventus.
