In the 2017-18 season, Max delivered an incredible 12 assists, leaving many shocked when he was not in Germany’s 2018 World Cup squad.
Lazio sporting director Igli Tare has identified Max to strengthen the team’s left side next season.
The Biancocelesti are almost guaranteed Champions League qualification and with Senad Lulic suffering from persistent ankle problems, a new left-back is needed.
Head coach Simone Inzaghi plays a 3-5-2 and the full-backs have one of the most demanding tasks.
Lulic at 34 cannot play every three days in such a system, but the fast and powerful Philipp Max could.

Max earns €5m gross per season and is under contract with Augsburg until 2022 with no release clause.
A year later, the talented left-back is ready to move on after another good season, in which he has scored seven and assisted five goals.
And Lazio could offer him the new challenge he wants…
