Anticipating competition, Inter are moving fast to sign Cavani, with Tuttomercatoweb reporting that an offer has been made.
The Nerazzurri have offered Cavani a two-year deal worth €15m – €7.5m for each season.
The salary would make him joint top earner with Romelu Lukaku and Christian Eriksen, hitting Inter’s wage ceiling.
Despite the lucrative proposal, it is still not what 33-year-old Cavani is requesting.
Cavani wants €20m (€10m per season), knowing many clubs are thinking about him for next season.
Atletico Madrid offer competition
Atleti have a draft agreement with Cavani that was made several weeks ago, but have taken a few steps back. Even so, they remain in the front row with Inter for the prolific goal scorer.
Newcastle are also lurking as they await a takeover from mega-rich Saudi owners.
For the time being though, Newcastle and another interested party, Inter Miami, are not Cavani’s first choice.
Cavani is interested in ending his career in MLS, which would make Inter Miami a candidate, but he wants to spend two more years in Europe before moving to America.
For now, the battle is between Inter and Atletico Madrid, but Inter may have to break their wage limit to land ‘El Matador’…
