The Belgium international is on a season-long loan from Chinese Super League side Dalian Professional (formerly Dalian Yifang).
The Coronavirus means Carrasco has had little time to readjust to La Liga, and Atletico want to extend his stay, Mundo Deportivo states.
Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws points out that Atletico have already told Dalian of their intention to have Carrasco next season.
Atletico want second loan deal
Dalian included a €30m option to buy when they loaned Carrasco back to Atleti. However, the new reality of the transfer market makes it difficult for Diego Simeone’s side to pay that.
Atletico want to postpone buying Carrasco and instead loan him again. It remains to be seen if the Chinese side agree, but there are good relations between the clubs.
Helping Atletico’s cause is the fact that Carrasco does not want to return to the Chinese Super League. The 41-cap Belgian hasn’t enjoyed his spell in Asia, although believes it has made him a better player.
Carrasco’s move to Chinese also hurt his standing in the Belgium national team, with Thorgan Hazard taking his starting place. Belgium coach Roberto Martinez would prefer Carrasco return to Atletico Madrid to enhance his national team chances.
