Lyon have made a new centre-back their priority for the summer market and are considering several players.
Bilel Ghazi of L’Equipe has named four profiles being studied by the Ligue 1 club: Robson Bambu (Athletico Paranaense), Aïssa Mandi (Real Betis), Merih Demiral (Juventus) and Marash Kumbulla (Hellas Vérone).
The most eye-catching name on the list is Merih Demiral, the highly-rated Turkish defender who plays for Juventus.
An €18m buy from Sassuolo last July, Demiral suffered an ACL injury that limited him to just 5 league appearances.
It seems unlikely Juventus would sanction a sale this soon, but a loan deal could be sanctioned.
Among the others under consideration, Robson Bambu is a Brazil under-23 international who is primed for a move to Europe.
At 28, Algeria international Aïssa Mandi is the oldest on the list, but with four years of La Liga experience could be the safest bet.
20-year-old Marash Kumbulla features for Hellas Verona in Serie A and is an Albanian international.
Bruno Cheyrou is in line to replace Stade Rennes-bound Florian Maurice as head of recruitment at OL.
One of Cheryou’s first tasks at the Groupama Stadium will be to identify the best defensive signing.
It promises to be an important summer market for OL after a disappointing 2019-20 season.
Ligue 1’s early finish meant Lyon missed out on European football for the first time in 25 years.
